7 Good Foods for Pancreatic Health

The pancreas plays many important roles in keeping you healthy:

  • It produces several enzymes which are essential for you to digest protein and fats in the food you intake;
  • The enzymes it producing are essential for your body to reduce inflammation that caused by toxins and infections;
  • It manufactures some hormones, such as insulin, which maintains your blood sugar at a healthy level.

A healthy pancreas system is important for your overall wellness, and an unhealthy pancreas system can be discerned by some normal symptoms:

  • Spots on Pancreas
  • Bloating
  • Back pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain in the upper abdomen

For maintaing a healthy pancreas, keeping a healthy eating habit is one of the most helpful ways. Some types of food groups can protect against pancreas disorders and even pancreas cancer, including:

One- Garlic

A study shows consuming garlic helps prevent pancreatic cancer. This is mainly thanks to the sulfur, arginine, selenium, oligosaccharides, and flavonoids it contains. Other members of the allium species vegetable such as leeks, onions and chives are also with this ability.

Two- Turmeric

The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric could benefit several diseases like arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, uveitis and including pancreatitis. Also, curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric is said to have strong anti-oxidant properties, and oxidative stress is one of the factors for pancreatitis. Foods that contain antioxidants like turmeric could fight free radicals and prevent oxidative stress thus preventing the pancreas disorders.

Three- Spinach

Health experts at the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke suggested B vitamins and iron are essential for maintaining a healthy pancreas system, spinach is a good source of both and can be consumed in a variety of ways, stir-fry with garlic or just add it to your salad. Other leafy greens such as swiss chard and mustard are also excellent foods for pancreatic health.

Four- Kale

Just like spinach, kale is also one of the pancreas-friendly foods. It is a good source of kaempferol, a dietary flavonoid that has been proven to lowering the risk of pancreatic cancer as well as other pancreas disorders.

Five- Oatmeal

People who’re suffering from pancreatitis may experience loss of weight as there are not enough enzymes produced by the pancreas to assist in digestion. Oatmeal is a good source of dietary fiber, consume it along with lean proteins can prevent weight loss and diabetes. Other whole grains such as brown rice, buckwheat and barley are also good picks.

Six- Blueberries

Blueberries also with strong anti-oxidant properties, which help get rid of free radicals in the body responsible for many chronic diseases as well as cancer. Regular consumption of blueberries help to maintain good pancreatic health.

Seven- Reishi Mushrooms

A report from The American Journal of Chinese Medicine in 2011 showed the reishi mushroom has ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, and it has been recommended for the use of pancreatitis treatment.
