8 Home Remedies for Stomach Flu

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea can be used to get relief from the problem of stomach flu. Regular consumption of chamomile tea prepared with fresh chamomile flower (1 tablespoon) and water (1 cup) can provide effective results. Honey can also be added to this tea in order to improve the taste. Another option is to add chamomile leaves to ice tea.

Salt

Sodium is another electrolyte that depletes rapidly with vomiting and/or diarrhea. Broths and soups are nutritious and an easy way to rebuild sodium and other mineral losses. If you can’t handle broth or soup, add a pinch of salt to your juice or tea. You will not notice any change in flavor, but your body will be pleased.

Ginger

Ginger is anti-inflammatory and antiviral in nature, thus, helps improve the digestion and heals the infection. It also gives relief from vomiting and nausea. Boil some chopped ginger in the hot water. Strain it, and sip this drink slowly. Repeat this remedy 2-3 times a day, to feel better.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is highly effective in treating the problem of stomach flu. An individual can consume cinnamon tea to cure various problems (such as vomiting and diarrhea) resulting from stomach flu. Consuming a mixture of cinnamon powder and honey can also help in improving digestion and providing relief from the problem of acidity.

Garlic

Used as a preventative, it can stave off the flu, but it is also a wonderful antibacterial and antimicrobial. If vomiting is involved, however, it may be too strong. If you can tolerate it, garlic can hasten recovery immensely. Use it freshly chopped and mixed in honey or in capsules. Some have said that it will sooth the stomach lining and bowel, calming cramping and harshness.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar is a rich source of pectin, which helps soothe the upset stomach. It also prevents vomiting, nausea, stomach ache and gas. Mix one teaspoon of ACV in a glass of water or any fruit juice. You can also add honey to it. Drink it to feel better.

Turmeric

This popular spice is known and consumed all over the world and is often considered one of the most versatile and effective herbal remedies for a wide range of health conditions. The complex mixture of antioxidants, bioflavonoids, vitamins, and minerals found in turmeric make it a wonderful tonic for an upset body, particularly if you’re suffering from gastroenteritis.
