A Simple Sage Honey Cough Syrup Recipe to Soothe Sore Throats and Coughs

How to Use this Sage Honey Cough Syrup to soothe sore throats and coughs.

  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped sage
    • 3/4 cup raw honey
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Stir the mixture of all the ingredients over medium heat until simmering. Then remove from heat and let it steep for 10 minutes.

    Strain and store in a sealed glass jar, save it in fridge.

    Take one or two teaspoon of this syrup when you’re suffering from sore throat or cough. It’s so simple, but provides good result. Actually, just honey is said to be more effective for relieving a cough than over-the-counter drugs. And sage also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties, which is great for sore throat and cough.

    The simple combination of these two ingredients makes a wonderful syrup, it’s highly recommended to try as it is so easy to make.

    According to a study from Harvard University, many of the active ingredients in over-the-counter cough medicines are ineffective. So why not make your own remedies with the natural ingredients to relive a nagging cough?

    Besides this honey and sage combination, there are many other folk ways you can also try, which are totally natural and without any side effects.

    Take a cup of thyme tea helps relieve cough, upper respiratory infections and sore throat. As thyme leaves contain a potent punch of cough-calming compounds that work effectively to reduce inflammation. Add 2 teaspoons of crushed thyme leaves in a cup of boiling water to make a perfect drink for your problem.

    If you’re suffering from a wet cough, black pepper is helpful. As it stimulates circulation and mucus flow to help you recover fast. Use 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper and 2 tablespoon of raw honey in a mug, fill with boiling water and let it steep for 10-15 minutes. The strain and drink this warm tea.

    Ginger also helps to treat the common colds and flu, as well as the symptoms including cough. Thanks to its antihistamine and decongestant capabilities, the spicy drink made with ginger provides great relief for cough and other infections caused by colds and flu. You can add honey and lemon juice into a cup of ginger tea to ward off your sore throat and cough.
